What is Transistor - Basic Idea

A transistor is a semiconductor device that used to amplify or switch electronic signals. It can be used as an electronic switch to turn a current or voltage on or off, or as an amplifier to increase the strength of a weak signal.
Transistors are the building blocks of modern electronics, including computers, smartphones, and other digital devices. They are typically made from materials such as silicon or germanium.

Type of Transistor:

There are two basis type of transistor, NPN Transistor and PNP Transistor
What is Transistor - Basic Idea

  • A NPN Transistor is a type of bipolar junction transistor (BJT) that uses a p-type semiconductor material sandwiched between two n-type semiconductor materials. When a current is applied to the base terminal of a NPN transistor, it allows current to flow through the collector and emitter terminals, making it useful as an amplifier or switch.

  • A PNP Transistor is another type of bipolar junction transistor that uses an n-type semiconductor material sandwiched between two p-type semiconductor materials. The operation of a PNP transistor is similar to that of a NPN transistor, but the direction of current flow is reversed. When a current is applied to the base terminal of a PNP transistor, it blocks current flow through the collector and emitter terminals.
